Neil Reith sent in these photos of son soloing.

100 years

At Erie Airpark we had a day of Celebration.  A hundred years just seems to fly by.  We started out with having Steve Greer solo his Challenger. Which is the oldest 2 place still around.  Flying continued throughout the day with people taking time off work to help celebrate the day. I had 10 combined, Introductory Flight Lessons and regular lessons, which is a record for one day. As you can see below many people stopped by and flew in.   Jim Robinson

Sue & Des Wisson fly early and Sue freezes and goes to work.

Steve Greer on his way to solo.

It seems farther to the end of the runway today.

Steve in the air.

Back on the ground and happy and a little .... you know. He also flew later.

Jim and Joe Schaack of Cordova, IL. A new Challenger owner.

Jim awarding Steve with Solo award.

Dan Dawson flew in from LeClaire, Iowa.

Ted Wink will soon be in the Club plane.

Mike Housenga getting plane ready to fly.

Jeannine Eden flew today also. She rarely misses a chance to fly.

Ed Vens from Calamus, Iowa stopped by. He had flown earlier in the morning.

Denny Dyer took pictures of field on his flight.

He forgot to have someone take his picture.

With donuts, coffee hot chocolate, hot dogs, fresh fruit and the regular foods no one starved.

John Kloos made it by the crack of noon.

Alli Borges from WHBF Channel 4 Rock Island

Katie Taube WHBF TV4 Rock Island

Jim being interviewed for News 4

Larry Espe has his plane apart for upgrade so Jim lends a hand.

Wayne Hamburg almost 80 and almost 1000 hours flying. Started in his 60's

Stu and DellaMae Smith. Stu will be 80 in April. Flying since Moses was around.

Ken Perron and flight instructor Mike Nass from Clinton Airport.

Jerry Gott a new Flying Club member.

Larry Burton Wisconsin. Picking up Challenger Thurs. 18th.

Lyle Long of Bettendorf, Iowa didn't ride his motorcycle today.

Kevin Lee had to work but got here in the afternoon.

Stan Hodge purchased Jack Thompson's plane.

We kept a record of flyers on the blackboard.

Kevin Lee and Dan Dawson do a fly-by as Dan returns.

Bob Kuhns showed up right at dusk. He said he would be out of the country and would miss the Awards Banquet.   Boy what some people will do to avoid the inevitable.

Also Sue Schaack of Cordova flew and the photo was to blurred to publish. My apologies. Her husband Joe is listed above.

Pete Hopkinson and Ned Rolston flew between Hampshire, IL and Sycamore, IL.

Neil Reith and Dave Lillie also flew and will send photos.

It was a wonderful day at the Airpark and I thank all those who came out to celebrate with us.  Jim and Sue Robinson

Also this from:

EAA Chapter 277 (Carbondale, IL), commemorated today's events by making sure everybody in our chapter got a ride in an airplane. We invited three TV stations and the local newspaper out and they all showed up at once! What a media event for the 50 or so people gathered at the t-hangars. People and planes everywhere. We had a great time.
Much better than at Kitty Hawk, I guess.
Regards,

EAA Chapter 277 President

EAA Chapter 277 has created an anniversary package to commemorate EAA members' centennial day flights. They include a pin, patch, and window decal expressing the words, "I Flew on the 100th Anniversary of Flight." Each item is dated December 17th, 2003 and features a drawing of the 1903 Wright Flyer. The Chapter is making these items available to fellow EAA members who fly on the 17th. For more information, contact Steve Schlager at s.schlager@mchsi.com.
