We all had a great time
at the fly in this year. We had a small group but we enjoyed each others
company. On Wednesday Mick and his wife, Mary arrived to help set up
and boy did they get put to work, mowing, stacking metal, weed eating
fixing chili for Friday evening. Bob Johnson arrived with his motor
home and vehicle in tow. He drove back to Wisconsin and flew his plane
in on Friday morning before it got really windy. Friday evening we
gathered in the club house because it was to windy for the bon fire. The
corn is ready to pick and we did not want to catch a corn field on
fire. We had a movie night with chili and hot dogs.
Everyone enjoyed the food and movies. Darlene Bornhoeft made cupcakes
for all to enjoy. Thanks Darlene!
Saturday morning planes started to arrive and Tony from Danny boys was
here to feed us all with pork and chicken sandwiches. We had gorgeous
weather. There were 38 planes of all types here on the field or as Frank
Beagle would say Challengers and rif raf. Dave Burra took home the
plaque for longest distance traveled as he flew 220 miles to attend.
Bob Johnson received the "Cool concept" award for his tactic on bringing
his motor home and plane to the function. Greg Klemp received the
"Sue’s choice" award for a very nicely done little single seat
Challenger.
Saturday evening we had a bon fire and chili and hot dogs. We enjoyed
the fresh night air and visiting with everyone.
Sunday morning Danny Boys arrived and had biscuits, gravy, bacon, Eggs
and juice. Jim and I made coffee in Jim's hangar.
We want to thank everyone who attended and those who helped us get set
up and pick up in the end. We are glad everyone got home safely.
We hope to see you all back again next year for the Grand Party of them
all, the "25th anniversary of the Challenger". Start planning the time
off as this will be the biggest event to date. Rumor has it that there
will be Challengers in from Canada, making Erie Airpark an International
airport! See you next year.
Fly safe. Sue and Jim Robinson, at an erie place.
