Dawn Patrol 9

And Dawn Patrol 10 (below)

October 18 2003 to Ed Ven's farm in Calamus, Iowa

Hildred Williams & Wayne Hamburg join the Dawn Patrol.

Time to launch.

Des Wisson had starter problems so Denny let him fly his single place.

We cross the Mississippi north of Cordova Nuclear Plant.

With strong headwinds we sometimes had 30mph ground speed. But there's Ed's.

On final at Ed's.

With jet assist Hildred took off last and beat all of us.

We looked all over for Wayne.

He did finally show up.

Neil Reith circled a few times and gave it a try. Peggy should have a repaired nose gear soon.

Dennis and Sherrie Kremer had drove in to their first DP. A few more lessons and then they can join us.

The Vens home was beautiful .. and well decorated..

Ed stayed in the kitchen as we filled the dining room.

After a wonderful breakfast we go to battle the winds again.

Wayne prepares to launch.

85-95 mph ground speed going home.

Spotted this herd of Deer on base leg at Erie.

Wayne was not far behind this time.

Dawn Patrol 10

October 25, 2003 To Erie Airpark, Illinois

Everyone hangered at Erie flew to the Mississippi River across from Clinton, Iowa meet Iowa group and return with them to Erie. Then breakfast was served in the clubhouse.  We at Erie then escorted the Iowa group back to the river.

Sue Wisson is still on crutches so she comes over to the airpark to see Des off.

Larry Espe getting everything ready for a predawn launch.

Jim and Des are ready to launch.

Mike Housenga and Neil Reithenbacher are ready to go also.

It was overcast and there wasn't one of the beautiful sunrises.

Jim took this picture as Neil sits at the end of the runway.

Get close to Jim and get a picture taken.

Jim set the camera on his knee and took this shot.

Then he took this one of the dash.

Here Des buzzes his house in Hillsdale to get a photo.

Jim took this of Mike Housenga doing some sightseeing.

Early morning train passing through Erie.

Jim landed and took this one of Kevin Lee landing.

They line up around the clubhouse and in front of the hangers.

Hildred Williams walks out to meet Kevin.

Ed Vens made the next appearance.

It was a great flight and we are looking forward to the next Dawn Patrol.

Dawn Patrol 11 to Marty Spies.

This one scared a lot of people away because they heard that the runway was only 1,000 ft long. Kevin Lee said that it's mowed on the end before the runway and you can get down real low and when you land it's a uphill grade. We'll have to fly by and have a look and maybe make a few passes. But Kevin, Dan and Jeannine had no problems. To see all the photos click here.
