Dawn Patrol 14

The final Dawn Patrol for 2003 was to Kewanee, IL airport. It was a brisk 14° at 7:00am and a front was suppose to be moving in from the southwest.  A little bumpy at about 800' and a little headwind going down. Coming back we had ground speeds as high as 114 mph.  It was a beautiful morning and a great start to a later snowy day.

Kevin Lee lands at Erie to pick up Neil Reith since Pegasus is grounded.

Dan Dawson was a few minutes behind.

Kevin and Neil get within a few hundred yards and breaks away.

He falls in behind Dan since Dan has his GPS set right.

We fly over Atkinson, IL.

Finally there. Close to 50 minutes fighting the wind.

Art Pierson awaits us and signals us to his hanger.

With 2 heaters going and lots of lights we enjoyed seeing his project.

Art and Dave Lillie are building a full scale Neiuport.

Art shows off his 2nd Neiuport.

We then went to the airport main building.

A view from the balcony facing the runway & next to the pool table.

A look at the weather center and you can see why we left quickly.

But we got a group shot first.

Actually there were times when we went faster.

Looking in the back seat.

Road leads straight north to Erie.

Flying over Erie.

We stop and Kevin drops off Neil, top off fuel and they head home.

Made it back by 9:45 and was snowing by noon.
